| BIOGRAPHY |
David
Cooper's recollection of Ivah Calhoun... as a child
David Cooper would stop each morning before school and pick
up Ivah's mail for $0.10 per day and deliver it to her home
on the northeast corner of 3rd and North Street. Ivah
later raised this to a flat $1.00 per week. In
addition to money received, Ivah made breakfast each
Saturday morning for him. Fast forward 25 years just
prior to Wendall's death; Wendall, her son, recalls how much
Ivah looked foward to Saturday mornings and David's company.
David also recalls Ivah saying that many of the women
congregated in the home on the southwest corner of 2nd and
North Street the day of the 1925 fire that destroyed the
business district of Ostrander where they cooked egg
sandwiches and supplied water to those fighting the flames.
Although unimportant, David Cooper recalls that Ivah's desk
was always well-supplied with pens that wrote in green ink.
Ivah always used green ink.
J. Calvin
Calhoun and Ivah Ebert became members of Ostrander
Presbyterian Church by letter on Jan 14, 1923. He as
an Elder from 1929 to 1937. (31) |
