| BIOGRAPHY |
| GIDEON A. CARR, farmer; P. O. Ostrander ; was born in
Pickaway Co., Ohio, March 3, 1816 ; is a son of Amos and Margaret (Jackson)
Carr, who came to Delaware Co. in 1826 ; they were the parents of twelve
children, three of whom are now living. The father was a native of Virginia, but
came to Pickaway Co., Ohio, when but a boy. His father, Conrad Carr, was one of
the first men to settle in Pickaway Co. Our subject passed his youth and early
manhood assisting his father on the farm ; he received but a limited education,
and at 21 years of age began for himself as a farmer. He was united in marriage
with Lucinda Smart Jan. 18, 1837; she was born in Delaware Co. Dec. 5, 1820 ;
from this union there were four children, three of whom are now living -Joseph,
Ann and Jane ; the name of the one deceased was William. Mrs. Carr departed this
life Oct. 6, 1874 ; she was a kind, loving wife and mother, and an exemplary
member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Carr began life as a poor boy, and is a
self-made man; he owns 275 acres of well-improved land in Scioto Township ; is a
Democrat. (1) |
