John
Rathbone, Sarah Elizabeth Ostrander's first husband, was
born in Elmira, NY in 1850 to John R. and Mehitable
Rathbone. John, at the age of 25, enlisted in the 4th US
Calvary, Co. B, at Chicago, IL in 1875. Fiver
years later, he wed Sarah Elizabeth Ostrander July 2,
1880 in Clark Co., Ohio. John was accepted as a
member of the Ostrander Presbyterian Church on Feb. 7,
1888. He died just under two months later on March
24, 1888 making it appear he was preparing for
inevitable death. He was only 38 years old.
James
M Clark marries Sarah Elizabeth Ostrander in Dayton,
Ohio on Dec 24, 1895. According to census records,
James had been previously married. He was born May
6, 1850 to William Clark and Catharine Leadom in
Winchester, Ohio.
Sarah Elizabeth Ostrander, was born
Dec. 28, 1850 to Jacob Ostrander and Harriet
Morse. Her mother Harrier, died in 1854, when
Sarah was just 4 years of age. She was married to
John Rathbone in 1880 and then James M Clark in
1895. She is the mother of a child that was living
in 1900, but had died by 1910. This child was not
living with her in 1900. She and James were living
in Scioto Twp, Delaware County, Ohio in 1900 and
1910. Yet, she dies in Miami, Ohio on June 17,
1927 and is buried in Elmira, NY; the birthplace of her
first husband; John Rathbone.
