When at the age of 5, John H. Field's father, Dr. Erastus Field moved to the
village of Ostrander. John grew up in Ostrander receiving a good
education. At the age of 22, John began to study medicine under the
direction of his father. In 1872, he attended his first course of lectures
at the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery and in 1873 graduated at this
college at the head of his class. He then began practicing medicine in
Ostrander. (1)
John H. Fields read medicine with his father and graduated
from the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery in
1870. He returned to Ostrander after his graduation and
took the old office of his father, the latter retiring from
active work. About 1878 or 79, the father and son moved to
Knoxville, Tenn., where the father died and where the son is now
practicing. (24)
