Jacktown, or Jack's Town, is the name given to the area
comprising High Street between Main Street and Jacktown Road.
Contrary to rumors, Jacktown is not named for a jackass
farm, but for Jack Shoppert who developed the area and
operated a mill on the east bank of Blue's Creek on the north
side of High Street.
